Hands on pet grooming instruction now offered
@Pink Poodle
There are not enough good pet groomers in this industry, and the safety standard seems to be lacking with some of the resources available to future groomers. Schools can be expensive and out of the area for some.
The Pink Poodle in Crockett, California has successfully trained several groomers over the last two decades.
It takes a while to learn to be a good pet groomer. Often times rushing through a course or doing online programs is not the same as actual "hands on learning". Hands on learning is the best way to learn.
Desiree has taught several people to groom; who have went on to have successful careers as a pet groomers. She has taken in students who have paid for a vocational schooling and have mentored under her as part of their school's program.
Every person is different when they learn to groom. Some people pick it up quickly and some need longer to figure it out. In order to be considered for the hands on instruction program, you must be able to present a physical note from your physician stating you are in good health to learn to groom pets.
Grooming is a very physically and mentally demanding line of work. You will learn from the very beginning which is bathing, and eventually move to haircuts with everything from techniques, safety and how to handle clients/certain situations.
The first portion of the program can be taken by anyone who wants to learn Tidy up hands on- (everything but the haircuts), which is ideal for pet sitters, boarding kennels, anyone looking to offer more services without the full haircuts.
You will get a certificate of " Hands on Completion" when you finish the hours required for both programs and pass the testing portion at the end. All grooming tools must be purchased separately. There are 50 hours available every month. Typically these programs take 2-5 months which is about the time frame to becoming a good groomer. Rushing through other programs often does not allow the person to feel really comfortable about starting on their own. Hands on training days are wednesdays, and thursdays, with the occasional saturday. Space is limited, please email desireegrooms@yahoo.com or send a text if you are interested in either program 510-691-9104
